Tokyo, November 30, 2005 - JCB, a leading international payment brand, is pleased to announce that Nakau beef bowl restaurant chain, Tokyu Snow Resorts, and B&V Corporation's Karaoke-kan karaoke clubs are phasing in QUICPay contactless payment acceptance in Japan.
"QUICPay's fast and easy payment is a perfect match for both customer and merchant at fast food restaurants and leisure facilities such as these, as well as other venues including family restaurants, supermarkets, and convenience stores", said Mr. Koya Sakuma, Manager of Acquiring Business Planning Department at JCB.
QUICPay is a payment solution designed for locations where speed and convenience are important. Launched by JCB in 2003, QUICPay leverages the advantages of fast offline processing so that a purchase can be made in less than one second, much quicker than payment by cash. A part of the customer's existing credit limit is assigned to a contactless IC chip, which may be embedded in a plastic card or in a mobile phone handset. QUICPay purchases are linked to the cardholder's existing JCB credit card account so that users can also enjoy earning loyalty points on all their daily purchases. In addition, just like a regular credit card, QUICpay users are not liable for unauthorized charges, so they don't have to worry about paying for charges they didn't make if the card or phone is lost or stolen.
Japan's Nakau beef bowl restaurant chain introduced QUICPay at four outlets in Osaka and Tokyo on a trial basis in October, and is planning to phase in QUICPay at all 266 outlets nationwide in the future along with acceptance of the JCB credit card. In November, Tokyu Snow Resorts also started accepting QUICpay for payment at five major ski resorts including Gran Deco Resort and Tangram Ski Circus.
Now B&V Corporation is phasing in the QUICPay payment option at its 72 locations throughout Japan to offer customers greater convenience and speed. B&V Corporation also plans to give QUICPay customers a 30% discount on karaoke room fees at Karaoke-kan clubs. JCB and B&V are working together on developing communication and other marketing tools to take full advantage of the channels offered by mobile phones to reach customers.
JCB is anticipating at least half a million Japanese consumers to sign up for QUICPay service within the next three years. Major merchants accepting QUICPay currently include Royal Host restaurants, Seicomart convenience stores, and the Takamatsu Symbol Tower office complex in Shikoku. JCB expects over 100,000 merchants to implement QUICPay acceptance in the next three years.
