Tokyo, Japan, September 11, 2003 - JCB
and Hertz Asia Pacific (Japan) have agreed
to work together to stimulate worldwide
tourist demand, beginning with a joint
campaign from September 22, 2003 to April
30, 2004 targeting Japanese traveling abroad.
The international credit card brand and
the international car rental company are
focusing on strategies to revitalize global
tourism, which has recently suffered a
number of setbacks. The current campaign
is intended to build demand among JCB's
more than 45 million Japanese cardmembers
by added benefits for overseas use. When
a cardmember makes a Hertz reservation
through JCB Travel and then buys two airline
tickets or spends 70,000 yen or more with
the JCB Card, he or she receives a coupon
good for a one-day free rental in the U.S.A.
from Hertz and is automatically entered
in a lottery for a variety of prizes. In
addition, JCB's most prestigious card "The
Class" members receive free membership
in the Hertz #1 Club Gold.
"We believe this joint promotion
will not only spark international tourist
demand, but will also benefit JCB as a
travel and entertainment card in providing
quality rental car services to our customers," commented
Hiroyuki Nakamura, Senior Vice President
of JCB International, the international
arm of JCB. "In today's diversifying
tourist market, we expect the demand for
rental cars to continue to grow. We are
looking forward to working out strategies
aimed at our overseas cardmember base with
Hertz in the future."
Hertz Asia Pacific (Japan) Ltd. Marketing
Department manager Hiroyuki Kobayashi said, "This
is our first partnership of this type with
a credit card company, and we have strong
expectations of increased sales due to
JCB's extremely large number of cardmembers
as well as Gold Card and other preferred
customers. We are looking forward to maintaining
a long and close relationship into the
future."
