It is my great pleasure to announce that JCB marked its 50th anniversary on 25 January 2011. Taking this opportunity, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the continuous support of our partners, cardmembers, and merchants, as well as our shareholders throughout this half-century history. Without this support JCB would not be what we are today.

Since established in 1961, we have faced a number of challenges in striving to meet the needs and expectations of our customers. We have always been a pioneer in the payments industry, striving to provide new products and services throughout the Japanese market. In 1981, we established JCB international as the only Japan-based brand to go global, and since then our business has grown and diversified worldwide.

The global payments marketplace is changing faster and more drastically than ever before. With this expansion and change, what consumers demand in payment products has shifted from a simple payment method to diverse products with increased payments utility in a totally secure environment.

In the highly competitive global payments market, our 50th anniversary gives us a good opportunity to recognize and rediscover our unique brand values’; ‘a challenging spirit’, ‘a Japanese-style hospitality’ and ‘diversity and flexibility’. Backed by our 50 years experience in responding to our partners and consumers needs by leveraging our unique position as an issuer, acquirer, processor in the Japanese market and as an international brand, we are confident that JCB is well positioned to continue expanding our brand globally.
