JCB was established in 1961, and as the pioneer in credit card payment solutions for the Japanese consumer finance industry continues to develop strategically creative new products and services. In 1981 JCB launched its international development program aimed at promoting the use of the JCB card worldwide through global merchant acquiring and card issuing. The only Japan-based card to go international, JCB now has a solid foundation as one of the five international credit card brands, with over 350 partner corporations supporting a network of 13.50 million merchants in 190 countries and territories, and 55.75 million cardmembers in 20 countries and territories.

JCB puts our experience and know-how to use in providing the highest quality services and added-value products to satisfy our customers' every need. Our flagship service, the JCB Plaza customer lounge, has consistently earned high marks from cardmembers since its inception 17 years ago with our on-going enhancement of the JCB Plaza service program. In addition, we continue to improve the reliability and efficiency of the network infrastructure provided to JCB business partners around the world, including a significant upgrade to the international settlement and authorization system in 2002.

To stay ahead of diversifying consumer needs and the rapidly changing market, JCB is focusing on the accumulation of practical achievements and further research and development in such areas as expanding the card payment sector, providing incentive points and other innovative support functions, and building new business models in the business-to-business market. In addition, JCB is at the forefront of proactive security to protect our partners and cardmembers through advanced technology including the smart card and innovative user authentication, as well as strict personal information protection policies.

Since 2003 when we established our long-term managerial plan, the JCB Vision 2010: Evolution for the Future, we have been building business in a number of new areas, as a payment solution provider and as an operations provider, not limiting ourselves to the conventional credit card business. In the future we will continue to aim at broader development through opening new markets and by providing even higher quality service and products to better meet customer needs.
